Youth Leader Position Description

A youth leader is an older 4-H member (8th grade and older) who develops leadership skills and teaches other 4-H members. The 4-H Youth Leadership project is designed to give youth the experience they need under the guidance of an adult volunteer. 4-H’ers learn leadership skills by teaching, working with others, and taking on responsibilities.

Purpose:

  • Older youth can take on roles to help them develop their leadership skills.

Time Required:

  • One year, time varies per month and type of activity.

Responsibilities:

  • Help others learn skills, increase their knowledge, and work towards their goals
  • To express the thinking of members in a club.
  • For their enthusiasm, which is needed in an active 4-H program.
  • To carry out the program that is planned by the youth leader, adult leader and the 4-H members.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate to members, leaders, and other adults.
  • Enthusiasm.
  • Patience.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to cooperate and organize.
